Rules & Guidelines for Submissions

Rules and Guidelines are necessary little buggers as of late, but I’ll try to keep them as few as possible, though they may have to be tweaked here and there.

1. One Submission per artist or band per project. So if you’re an artist (or represent one) who drops a few different projects in a year, you may have multiple submissions but not of the same project.

2. Include everything we will need for a feature or review: HD photo without writing (if we need to credit a photographer, let us know), links for any social media or where the music is available for purchase, tour dates, a bio, basically anything you want included in the post you’re looking for. The more information we have, the longer your feature will be, because the more we can connect with it.

3. I feel like this should go without saying, but it needs to be said: PUT YOUR BEST FOOT FORWARD! We are introducing your music to the public, and you want fans right? You want people to love you, and back your music and help you accomplish your dreams – yes? Okay, to do that the music doesn’t have to sound like it came from an expensive studio but it needs to have a bit of a polish to it. Let’s not record something with say “Recorderpro” from your phone and just upload the music to soundcloud and send it to us. I’m glad you’re having fun when you do those things, but those drunken Karaoke files should never see the light of day. Trust me, I have one myself and believe me, I didn’t exactly own “Bohemian Rhapsody” but Jack Daniels told me I did. Jack Daniels is a liar and should never be trusted, and that is why I’m on this side of the music business and not your side. Be thankful.

4. Be patient and keep in mind that we don’t do this as a full time job, so it may take some time to get the feature/review up for you (or the talent you represent). Which brings me to the next rule:

5. Do not keep sending the same email to us over and over. On an average week we receive upwards of 500 emails for artists who wish to be considered for submission – and while we think that is AWESOME! I (Willow) go through and listen to each one of them. If you keep submitting the same artist’s song repeatedly, it may knock someone else way down on the list and that’s unfair because I’ve logged more time into trying to figure out why this song sounds so familiar [when it’s because I’ve heard it three times already] instead of looking at other artists in addition to you/yours. Know what I mean? Let’s be fair and give everyone a shot. I know the market is competitive, but we’re here to help as many as we can, not put one above another or intentionally exclude anyone who is serious about their art. IF you continue to do this after this posting, your submission will sadly meet its demise in the cyber trash. I’m sorry, but consideration and professionalism will get you far, while abrasion will leave a bad taste in people’s mouths.

Okay, I think that’s it for now. I tried to keep the rules & guidelines as painless as possible, since I kind of detest rules myself, but for some they’re a necessary evil.

We still love y’all!
And look forward to all of your submissions!

    • My apologies for the frustration and oversight. We recently went through a re-vamp, a fabulous renovation of the site that we adore, but the ‘contact us’ page that was there before is missing. I’m about to fix that now and add the email address for submissions to this post. Hang tight.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!
