Musical Seduction began as a dream of mine because I have had [and continue to have] musician friends who are immensely talented, and not signed under a label but they all wanted and needed more exposure for their music. They were pursuing their dreams, and deserved to have a larger audience and fan base, so I wanted to help – and that is why this site was born.
Now, while there are a plethora of sites out there that review bands and albums, we all do it differently and bring our own unique spin to the table. I’ve never considered myself “in competition” with other music blogs, and I never want to be. I think there is room for all of us in the wide world of the internet, and I wish any other music blogs out there supporting the dreams of others all of the success in the world. In fact, if you want a shout out – let me know and I’ll be sure to give you one!
I am dedicated to this site, and I personally listen to each and every submission sent in before one of two things happens:
1.) I feature and or review the artist/band/song/album.
2.) I pass the information along to one of my other two writers because the music is in their wheelhouse and they can do it more justice than I can.
I never promise a set time for said feature or review, and sometimes if a submission doesn’t make it up on the site it is because we are not going to enjoy everything we hear, and I refuse to post negative reviews on the site. Even if I dislike part of an album, or a project as a whole (and have been asked by a friend to review it) I will try to post my opinions with some positivity. We want to encourage dreams, not step on them. We want to celebrate art, not tear it down.
But there are some submissions that are unprofessional (meaning they’re for lack of a better word, BAD. They sound as if they were recorded as a joke, or with a smart phone in the bottom of a barrel) and in that case I cannot and will not review them. It’s unfair for those kinds of submissions to take up space on this site when there are other serious artists out there who could have used the spot. Ya feel me?
So sending them in more than once does not increase your chances of getting a feature, a bit more than it increases the chance of the “song” or “album” getting better. It just is what it is.
I have had managers, indie labels, and publicists – in other words people who know better – sending me massive repeat submissions if I don’t get a post up in the amount of time that they think I should. Understand, if you represent and are sending me submissions for more than one artist that’s cool.
However, if it is one artist, one song, and I’m receiving multiple emails then that’s not acceptable, and you know better, and you know that you know better, so kindly knock it off. You receive an automated email when I receive your submission, so just let it go until I get in touch to inform you that the feature is up. If I don’t get back in touch with you, there’s a reason. I was raised southern, in other words I was taught “If ya can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.”
This blog is my passion, I love it – and I want it to be a place that bands and artists call home, but that being said, I don’t sit online 24/7 with it because unfortunately it isn’t my life.
I don’t get paid to do this, and outside of the World Wide Web, I do have other things that have been known to distract me from Musical Seduction because of prioritizing.
College so that I can achieve my degree in Psychology and Certification for Social Work being one of those, and writing a book being another, toss in my awesome kid on the spectrum that I homeschool and I kind of have my hands full. See?
“But you have other writers” you may think – Indeed I do, and they also have lives outside of this wonderful site that we want you guys to feel at home on.
So moving forward, we need some respect, patience, and most of all guidelines and rules so that everyone is on the same page and if we can’t be, just like with any other business there will have to be consequences. I didn’t want to have to be “that site” that was difficult, and I didn’t want to have to invent rules and regulations because I figured we’re (mostly) adults here (hey, we have some impressive younger artists featured) and nobody should have to be reminded and prodded about respect – however, I’ve sadly been proven wrong. So, the next post that you will see that will remain pinned to the top of the page is going to be regarding guidelines, rules and those dirty things called consequences that I hate so much. Blech.
For the rest of you that have been, are, and continue to be awesome – keep on doing what you’re doing, no worries. This is for the few who inevitably have to attempt to take advantage and try to ruin it for the many.
Remember nobody is entitled here, we’re doing this out of love, not obligation.
