Today would have been the 27th Birthday of an amazing lyricist, an incomparably talented, passionate musician and artist.
Adrenal Cancer took him from the Earth too soon for anyone who knew him, or would come to know him through his Legacy – his boundless talent and profound ability not to care what the critics thought or said.
I only came to know Spencer posthumously, but I owe him more than words could ever say.
His Legacy pulled me through some dark times, has encouraged and continues to encourage me when I’m down, and has been my muse when I thought I couldn’t be inspired.
From all of the stories I have read and heard, he was stubborn as Hell, opinionated, strong willed, frustrating, annoying at times, in other words, he was perfectly imperfect, as we all are.
Today (and every day) we celebrate Spencer, his music, his art and his legacy, that’s true – but we should also celebrate ourselves and each other for the same reasons.
I can’t think of a better way to respect his memory than that.
So, wherever you are, Happy 27th Birthday to the world’s best muse, Spencer Bell.
